The Absence of the Black Market

This design was particularly important to me because my grandmother and her husband ran a corner store themselves for about 30 years. I spoke to her about their store and what was significant about it & she said, “Just seeing all the different people. People from the community come in and buy things. It was nice to know somebody wanted to come in & support us.” She also talked about being to have her children in the store to help out. One of her children, my mother, I decided to use for this shoot because I thought it was important to pay homage and respect to people who helped shape me and inspired this particular design.
